Will Dasvatharam be a hit?

Will this movie be a hit? Either it can be a super hit or it can be a flop. It cannot stay anywhere in the middle. This movie has all the ingredients to be a blockbuster and at the same time there is reason to doubt about its success. While no one is going to find faults in the technical stuff behind this movie, that alone cannot be a reason for success or failure. In fact I believe tamil commercial cinema’s success does not depend on the technical superiority and directors and producers spend a lot on it without a proportionate commercial return. If this movie had been underplayed it will be a hit otherwise it will be as good as Hey Ram where the movie had too much and ran too little. Dasavatharam can very well decide Kamal’s future in film industry and I think failure of this movie will create a big dent on him that he may not be able to correct. If Kamal confuses tamil audience with anything like scenes switching between 12th century and 21st century, Ascar Ravichandran can forget his money. But if Kamal had given more focus to the CBI officer, the patti character and played it to perfection this movie will be the biggest hit. Any credit or fault in this movie should only go to Kamal and not to anyone else

I just don't care about commercial success, but what i am expecting out of this is a rich and fulfilling movie watching experience. I believe in substance over form, and for me, no amount of technical brilliance can overcome a flaw in the basic script or screen play.

In my personal experience, i have seen good movies declared as flop in the box office (boys, anbe sivam), but some uber crap movies like sivaji, and many of vijay's movies declared as blockbuster by the trade.

Going by the magnitude of the launch and the hype it has created, it looks like it has all the credentials to become a blockbuster , but i am really expecting a movie in the lines of apoorva sagotharargal or devar magan, which appealed to both the masses and the classes.

Last thing i don't want to happen is, movie to turn out to be a flop in spite of it being a good movie.
