Vinnaithandhi Varuvaya , Wake up Sid......

Managed to watch the above two movies in the past 3 months. One in a CD and another during a flight..... While I understand VTV (as it is populary refered these days) has a decent music and a good camera work, just could not understand how people have gone mad on that. 10 years back a similar movie based on a love story and relationship came. It was 'Alaipayuthe' and the movie really brought a change not just to the trend in Kollywood but may be impacted the culture itself of Tamilians... It was well received, had good music had a chocolate hero and good camera work and above all excellent direction. When people claim VTV is great and talks about relationships etc. I wonder what is in that . It neither had a continuity nor a seriousness associated with it. But the director and others think the movie is too good has excellent performance. May be it has a good performance considering the standard of the cast , movie buffs have to really question and may be compare/contrast these two movies. VTV has a similar and successful storyline. Christian girl/Hindu boy.... Alaigal Oviyadhillai/Kilijalgal had similar stoy line and depicted the relationships/trouble in love extremely well. VTV just does not define a story line and with the new found extravaganza of Kollywood just excels in technical part but fails miserably in a storyline. To me I will always remember the movie for that senseless dialogue between both fathers.. (Hey un payyan en ponna try pandranan.....). What a dialogue what an audacity from the director.... (or may be i have moved forward and am not in line with the dialogues of the current generation and their fathers.....)

Move next to Wake Up Sid.... I should first scold myself for ignoring this movie so long. What a movie. What a thin story line but well developed screenplay. Ok couple of scenes look foolish but it was meant to be. It had an excellent acting.. The heroine has to be commended for the performance.....Simple but still allowing quite a bit of close up shots... not may will dare to do that. And the way director has finished.... with the touch of monsoon in Mumbai and linking with the article in Mumbai Beat.... It is a piece of great direction, matured film making and a rare combination of everything that a film requires... The music towards the end was great. Everyone did well but it is a director's movie and it is as simple as it.

To finish with, comparing VTV and WakeupSid, Kollywood has to understand that the current trend of movies coming down south will not take the industry forward and there should be a serious thought on how to do good movies. Currently since the movie buffs in TN are not demanding good movies, Singam,VTV and any other movie as crap as that is running and giving returns... But to sustain on the long run and more importantly to satisfy themselves they have to start looking outside and learn.... Otherwise we will get movies only like VTV which may be praised for all its worth internally but will be fit for nothing......
